'To Know the Man' is a story about a man trying to explain his past and his tortured emotions to someone he wants to be close with.

This song is a touch autobiographical, but the main character is a highly embellished reflection of me. This guy has had some serious issues in his past.

Sometimes I find it hard to find the right things to say
It's that it's been so long since I've been so close
And I'm just afraid that I might overdose

Only when you touch my soul
Will you begin to understand
To know the pain
Is to know the man

Torturous thoughts haunt this tortured mind
And I must warn you, you might not like the things you find
Look through my eyes, see what I see
Crawl into my skin, experience the agony

My trust has been betrayed time and time again
Is it even worth the struggle if I can never win?
But realized that I've heard so many promises before
I don't think I can stand the torture anymore

Only when you touch my soul
Will you begin to understand
To know the pain
