'Fairy Tales' is the most personal song I have ever written. The lyrics were inspired by a serious relationship I was in for a couple of years.
I never met someone that was just so difficult to please. The chorus was based on the fact she was infatuated with romance novels and thought real life should parallel print. I just couldn't live up to the written word.

Why couldn’t you just let the past rest in peace?
Tried to breath life into memories best left deceased
Constantly reminded of who I was and what I’ve done
You let your be haunted and that can never ever be overcome

We questioned ourselves and wondered why we let it go on so long
We just looked away because we wanted to belong
We knew it was wrong but who every really wants to admit?
It’s time to face the reality that nothing in this world is definite

You wanted to live a fairy tale ending, the kind you only read about
And I tried my damnedest but the words weren’t there to come out
You don’t know how much I wanted to write the story of me and you
I realized I’m not the writer, fairy tales don’t come true

It seems like yesterday, I remember when we first met
Who would have guess that our lives would become such a mess
With souls intertwined, our lives became so entangled
And when we tried to unravel it all things just seemed to get more complex and more tangled

You wanted to live a fairy tale ending, the kind you only read about
And I tried my damnedest but the words weren’t there to come out
You don’t know how much I wanted to write the story of me and you
I realized I’m not the writer, fairy tales don’t come true
